@Ampz316 The outside of the transformer isn't live. The transformer is filled with oil which insulates the live metal on the inside from the outer case.

I love that noise! There's something I've always wondered about substations and you seem like the right person to ask.
Is the transformer live on the outside? Or is it encased and only live inside? So for example if someone (i have no intentions of doing this) went inside a substation and put their hand on the transformer, would they get electrocuted?

@Ampz316 As far as I know, it is not live on the outside. If it was, it would not be merely hidden behind a 4 foot high stone wall. Cats go in there all the time for instance. I'm sure it's quite safe to touch.
