College apprenticeships should really go into making engines like these... THAT is engineering at it's best.

@carlsberg1964 Probably because if Carlsberg did YouTube commenters they'd do them with reading glasses ready-installed so they could see the screen clearly LOL

was that in Nat-Ex colours?

@ImRatherTall, the loco was wearing the National Express logo on the tender because they (at the time, the operators of the East Coast franchise) kindly sponsored that test run, although the publicity gained for them was rather cancelled out by the fact that the test load was a rake of Virgin liveried coaches. Would have made more sense if they could have found a rake of their own NE liveried coaches for Tornado to pull.

I had a pint with the driver of that last week. He really knew how to put on a show!!!

@ML66B, would that have been Graeme Bunker? He seems to have driven it a lot on the mainline, but it gets driven by various other people, especially when visiting heritage railways.

They talking about letting Tornado loose on the high speed line London to Folkstone to see if she can smash the speed record there are many who thing that it can & i would love to see that

@shrekkie1001, I would be surprised if they really did try that - remember that Mallard (the current record holder) suffered mechanical damage during her successful assault on the record. The Tornado team spent 18 years building Tornado, so I don't imagine they would want to try anything so reckless. I certainly would like to see them take her up to 100mph on a good straight line, though.
