Ignacio lay dying in the sand
A single red rose clutched in a dying hand
The women wept to see their hero die
And the big black birds gathered in the sky

Mother of all our joys, mother of all our sorrows
Intercede with him tonight
For all of our tomorrows

The years went by and then the killers came
And took the men and marched them up the hill of pain
And Lorca the faggot poet they left till last
Blew his brains out with a pistol up his arse

Mother of all our joys, mother of all our sorrows
Intercede with him tonight
For all of our tomorrows

The killers came to mutilate the dead
But ran away in terror to search the town instead
But Lorca's corpse, as he had prophesied, just walked away
And the only sound was the women in the chapel praying

Mother of all our joys, mother of all our sorrows
Intercede with him tonight
For all of our tomorrows

  • Anyone who doesn't rate Shane as one of the all-time great poets is a bourgeois Oxbridge cunt.

  • fukin love this song

  • Federico Garcia Lorca. Poet, communist and a faggot. Shane's tribute. Wonderful

  • this made me look up the poor bastard that this song was written about, Lorca

seems some nationalist fascist cunts did what they did best back in the Spanish Civil War, and had the well regarded and loved poet dragged out of his home and shot for his art-

which the fascists found subversive, a censoring of life and expression

which went the way these things usually go, namely, they didn't end up censoring shit because 50 years later Irish are writing songs about it

    ha ha fascists suck

  • this has to be the only song that I like from this band

  • @theman1819 Right on. Good old Shane!

  • @NolanBryanLynch yeah i knew that, i shouldnt of said his songs but songs he sings always have meaning

  • @theman1819 The Popes play that one, actually, and that's a traditional.

  • Interesting lyrics. Nice music.
