@therighteousdeal The rituals you see being performed these days largely come from Babylonian Judaism and Zoroastrian Persia. I think you may appreciate this verse from the Qur'an itself: "Then the Messenger will say: "O my Lord! Truly my people took this Qur'an for just foolish nonsense." This means that it's been prophesised that Muslims all over the world will ignore the Qur'an in favor of arbitrary sources which have no divine sanction. The Qur'an itself attests to this.

@therighteousdeal The Qur'an describes prayer during the periods of sunrise, midday, late afternoon, sunset, and nighttime. It says that those who sit, stand, lay prostrate, bow, etc. with the intention of remembering God with humility are the ones who worship God with sincerity. The Qur'an describes ritual purification and the direction of prayer, and it also says that since God-consciousness is the goal of prayer, true piety is not to be found in rigid formalism, but in heartfelt worship.

@therighteousdeal As a western convert to Islam, I have never had much respect for the compilations known as Ahadith. Yes, I know that the Ahadith are ugly and contain many irrational things, whereas the Qur'an is lucid, rational, logical, and simple to understand while being profound at the same time. Why do people criticize Islam without reading the Qur'an first with an open mind and heart? The Qur'an actually does describe the Hajj and it does in fact address how to pray.
