@vmtz2001 : Here in The Netherlands I have never heard anyone call them Frennels and nor did I hear anyone at English stands call them Frennels at the IBC so maybe it depends on what people have been taught.
In middle school I can remember that some teachers pronounced the same words different opposite to others, so maybe that's it (not saying that the person above you is wrong, I just think that both can be right.)
'Fresnel' refers to the type of lens in front of the light. Generally, to get a short focal length, a large amount of curvature is needed, which means a thick lens. To make a short focal length lens thinner, its divided concentrically into circular sections which, while maintaing their curvature, are shifted back in a stair-step manner (this is really hard to explain, I hope you get what I mean).
Anyway, the "s" in "Fresnel" is silent, so it sounds like "Frennel."
I hear everybody talk about Frennels. Years ago, when I studied a little about filmmaking, I heard about Fresnels. Are they the same thing? If so, why does everybody call them Frennels? Or are we talking about two different things?
