Hotelschool The Hague is one of the fourteen competing hotel management schools in the European Mise en Place Cup Edition 2011.

In order to complete assignment #1, the four team members have created a movie to introduce themselves to their competitors as well as to the jury.

The team members representing Hotelschool The Hague are:

Ms. Robin Spierings
Ms. Marijn Letschjert
Ms. Veerle Donders
Mr. Mattias Nordlander

Footnote to the movie written by the The Hague Team:

Dear viewer,

We truly believe that our introduction video speaks for itself; however for purposes of clarity we have provided a short summation of the underlying concepts below.

The video was inspired by the "I am" campaign currently in use by Nikon. We believe the artistic prowess and sense of immediacy (counteracted by serenity) creates an impressive yet subtle juxtaposition which we wanted to incorporate into our own work. On this base we therefore developed our movie concept which evolved quickly and gained a feel of its own. As such, it is difficult to define in a succinct way our movie, but for the purposes of this commentary we will try to explain the development of the video.

We attempted to convey the message that social media is designed to connect all types of persons and act as a platform to do so easily. The connections work in tandem as a willingness to share with others and also helps, to a certain extent, to define who we are as a person. Therefore the video strongly emphasizes these connections and relates them to the development of people themselves. In effect, they are one of the many facets of a personality. This is where the "I am..." concept shines through as a unifying element.

Moreover, we feel that social media has not only revolutionized the way people connect but also that it is unequivocally tied to modernization of the world at large (with respect to technology and what one can accomplish therewith). To reflect this fact we used a fairly new technique of drawing called "light graffiti" to present our names. Additionally, we wanted to show that innovation is and integral part of our hospitality education. We also used the light graffiti session as our first group activity which helped us get to know one another. It was also just fun to do.

However, we should not forget the main purpose of the movie which was, after all, to introduce ourselves as a team. It is our belief that we have managed for do this in a creative, unexpected, and ( to a certain degree) innovative manner. The video attempts to express our true nature both semantically and symbolically. We are proud our chosen city of education (The Hague), and even more so of our chosen institution (Hotelschool The Hague). We are of the opinion that, in such a vital phase of our lives as students, the location and chosen university are paramount to the success of our future, happiness, and well being. We definitely tried to convey to the viewer that these are a large part of our identity within our student lives and hospitality education.
In conclusion, it is our sincere hope that the video can speak for itself; but we have outlined the major forces in the movie and explained, in part, the thought process behind our work.

Kindest regards,

Veerle Donders
Marijn Letschert
Robin Spierings
Mattias Nordlander
