Tried this a month ago on 10.10 and was very disappointed that the touchscreen did not work out of the box.

Now in 11.04 (alpha2) it works straight away from the live CD!

  • Have you tried updating it?

The new beta has overlay scrollbars, the're perfect for touchscreens :D

  • @jknvv13 I haven't really touched the tablet since but it would definitely be better scrolling wise. I'm going to wait until the final release because recovering from crashes on a tablet is a lot harder due to lack of keyboard for TTY switching.

  • Looks interesting..did you buy the tablet with Ubuntu pre-installed? I was wondering where I can buy one with ubuntu.

Is there a way to change an android tablet into Ubuntu?

    cheers

  • @nghalioun The tablet came with Windows 7, my work bought it and my boss wanted Ubuntu on it.

I'd recommend staying with Android due to the fact it would be hard to get Android back on if you reconsider. Android has a much superior interface for touchscreen, you will probably end up getting frustrated.

Just google - tablet name ubuntu

I'm sure there will be instructions on how to get it running on your machine.

  • After installed and updating packages the experience became a lot smoother, particular the unity bar, a handful of bugs were also fixed.

  • @phoozle You should try Gnome 3 on a tablet, search for this video on youtube "Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric auf dem WeTab - bejonet"

  • @nghalioun dude thats a hanvon tablet retail $800

  • By the time 12.04 LTS rolls around hopefully tablets will be getting cheaper and they'll have bumped up their touch capabilities even more than they already are! Surprised to see it working so well, even in an alpha version with the first implementation of Unity. Very impressive!
