Ashokan Farewell by Jay Ungar, performed by JR Perkins. Sorry that the video longer than it should be, it was my mistake.

  • Builder 65,Myear tells me,you have captured and tamed this wonderful piece.I myself am trying to do that on the violin and will practice as I listen to your skills shining through.Thank you.Yumanbeen1

  • @yumanbeen1

I wish it was me playing, but sad to say it is not. It's preformed by JR Perkins.

  • Hi Builder65 this is a beautiful haunting recording indeed, I have a cd myself from the Marines concert at the De Montfort Hall Leicester a good few years ago. It never ceases to entertain.. Thanks for posting.

  • @rashnurse

Your very welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • Such a wonderful piece of music, the sweetest rendition here. I seem not to be able to get Sullivan Ballou's letter out of my head as a listen to thesegentle strings! Damn this just sublime... thanks for sharing.

  • I love this piece so much and this is the best version I have heard!!! Wonderful. Thank You!!!

  • @TheBuilder65 if the internet is censored can i have my last bro hug from you?

  • *sigh* sadly this might be the last song i'll listen to if sopa passes

  • The best version that I have heard, gorgeous, and reposetd on Facebook for friends

  • at 11pm the other night while listening to this, I said, I can't take it anymore and started practicing this at almost midnight for about an hour

  • song makes me want to cry :*( so beautiful

  • This has to be the most beautiful rendition. A friend of the family played this on my Dad's fiddle when he passed away. I got Daddy's fiddle and would love to learn to play this some day. The orchestra does add to the sound, but a solo fiddle is very hauntingly beautiful. Thanks for uploading this version.

  • @bamadirtrider I agree somewhat. The full orchestration adds a lush richness and a truly lovely fullness to the piece. But when played with as a duet with only violin and guitar, its more haunting, soul seraching and even sad.

  • @brianmhaase I disagree. This is just a different interpretation of the music. I love the orchestra backing up the violin: rising and falling to place emphasis at different points in the music. I love the original version as it is more mournful. Altho not quite the same it reminds me of classical music vs Arthur Fiddler & The Boston Pops.
