From the director who brought you such films as, "A Great Marriage," "The Super Mario Bros. Super Adventure," "The Love Triangle," "The Ghost of a Rose," & "Swansong for the Reaper," and the minds that thought up, "Seabass Vs. The Old Dev," and "Non-Verbal," comes a new vision in the art of silent cinema -- THE SET-UP!
Co-written by and starring Nicholas Rushton in the lead role, The Set-Up is the third to be released short film, in a series of silent featurettes put together by the various members of Fantasy Mission Force Productions in association with the Centre for Arts and Technology, Halifax campus. Once again sitting in the director's chair, and joining Rushton as the other co-writer on the project is Matthew A. Gardiner, who as director of photography, recently completed principal photography on Jonathan Torren's film, "Afterthought," which has yet to see a theatrical release.
Also appearing in the film is Devin M. MacLeod, the director responsible for such films as, "Steve," which was written by Sebastian Halleran, and "A Night At The Movies." MacLeod plays the film's main antagonist opposite our hero Rushton, who gets hurtled into these unfortunate situations by doing's of MacLeod's evil character.
FUN TRIVIA:
-The music heard in both the elevator scenes is "The Girl From Ipanema" by Bossa Nova, which can also be heard during the Hellevator skits on the sketch comedy show, Attention-Span.tv. It was included as a nod to First Run Productions and the wonderful series they created.
-Nicholas Rushton is a drummer for the band Glittercinnamon and the Candy Wrappers, fronted by Crystal Porter. They have released a music video on Youtube for their song, "In The Woods." Rushton was also formerly apart of a band known as The Inside Job.
"The Set-Up" was shot as an improvised short film one Thursday afternoon by Matthew Gardiner, Nicholas Rushton and Devin M. MacLeod, and cut together the following day. You will only find mystery, suspense, and tragedy in "The Set-Up." Things that you will not find include:
