  • Some of the "whiter" hair products like herbal essences and pantene tend to make my hair hard but I hear a lot of people with natural hair say they use it. So I'm just wondering what could be the problem? Maybe it's just my hair type?

  • not sure what about the "whiter" hair products would be doing that. i would focus on the difference in the ingredients in the ones that work for your versus those that don't. maybe it is something in the "whiter" ones that disagree with your hair like a particular cone or something. if you have a conditioner that works for you i would worry about the others.

  • so how are you styling your hair on a daily basis? are you getting more than one day hair? are you twisting it every night?

my hair is still short I am only about 5 months natural and I have a lot of shrinkage.

can you show us any of your hair care routines? ie how you twist it or the application of the hair product while wet then the dry result.

I just really need some how to help.

  • whoa. that's a lot of questions. you might benefit from watching my Q&A video if you haven't already. I talk about my routine in that video. i also have a lot of shrinkage still. i have just grown to roll with my shrinkage. i don't do much to try to combat it. i do not twist every night. i do rock twists and twistout every once in a while. when i do i use the technique from loveinnappiness. so check her out. she has a great video on that. as far as my product application..i just slather it on.

  • i apply most all products using the motion as if i were putting my hair back into a ponytail. as it has gotten longer i sometimes do it first on the front half of my hair and then the back half. Or first one side and then the other. really doing it small section by small section is better because you don't end up using as much product and you cover your whole head more uniformly, but that takes more time. and I'm a bit lazy with it. so i hope these options help.

  • Glad to see another video. You and ShiningThru are my inspirations!! I wanted to know how you keep your coils and how often you detangle? Thanks.

  • i detangle about 1x per week. and my coils are pretty tight...so don't do anything special to keep them....if anything, sometimes i might use product to stretch them out a bit.

  • I co wash every day or two because my hair looks nasty if I dont and my curls are more defined after a fresh wash. My sister is a natural as well but she still has that old thinking that you should not wash your hair often. She washes her hair once a month. Which is more than what she did when she had a relaxer. When she relaxed her hair she only got hair wash on relaxer day. When the relaxer was getting washed out her hair. Her hair looks disgusting. White residue on her head.

  • thank u

  • yes...water is a natural girl's best friend. i'm with ya...but you know what, it always grows back. so, who knows. i might take the cutting plunge sooner rather than later.

  • I noticed naturals wash/co-wash their hair more often than permed or otherwise chemically treated hair. Maybe the idea that kinky hair couldn't stand water is a myth.

I want to cut my hair also, but am afraid I won't like it and would have lost all of my length.... Ugggh!
