Introduction of Beaufighter in late 1941 helped clear skies over Malta, not to mention shipping lanes. Handy chap, the Beau.

A lot of German pilots went back to Malta after the war and apologised to people - a lot of the pilots were psychologically affected by both bombing the island around the clock, and knowing what they were doing had an affect on the lives of innocent civilians.
I'm not sympathising the Nazis by this, I'm stating that there were a lot of decent people of the Axis side who participated during the war, as the were on the allies.

more than 5,000 years of history and Malta was never conquered. In the Great Siege we were outnumbered 1: 10. In ww2 we were the turnpiont, amongst the first to start acieving victories. Small island big balls :)
