Unfortunately Congress lost its spine decades ago and has surrendered its role in declaring war to the executive. Every president since Kennedy has used the military at his pleasure. The War Powers Act is a joke and unnecessary. The Constitution clearly lays out the powers without any such law necessary. But the thing about power is that if it isn't used it just lies there. Some legislators may carp about this but they won't do anything about it.

Brad, what your talking about is system of government that has checks and balances. There was a time when such a thing was true; these days that idea is nothing more than a fallacy. I wish Doc Brown was real and had created a time machine from a Delorean. I would borrow said time machine and bring a few people from the past to the present. Someone like John Addams, George Washington, Tomas Jefferson, and the other founding fathers. I would love to hear their thoughts on modern government.

Why should America not follow the rules of the United Nations. I'm against the illegal wars that bush started. And I don't see why we should interfere with Libya, let that camel shagging nation sort its own problems out. But the UN has rules on conflicts and they must be followed.
