There are a couple of clips from the star trek TNG episode "The Neutral Zone".

The first one is simple meant to illustrate what is all about.

Some background for these clips, the Enterprise found a derelict space craft carrying 3 cryogenically frozen people from the 21st century (our time). The clips show their reaction to the TNG era federation and its politics.

Picard's speeches:
I think Jean Luc Picard summarizes the situation quite well, but he is speaking to the people from the 21st century and explaining the situation when one of them inquires about his business investments and where all his money went.

  • also terms like 'greed', 'excess', and 'accumulation' are rather subjective. appetites are subjective too, by their very nature. some people can get by on a single leg of KFC, others eat the whole bucket. the trick to all this (what starts the wars bytheby) is getting people (human nature) to agree on all this subjective definition. GETTING PEOPLE TO AGREE!? good luck with that... there is no luck...

  • @cwross1976 We are "pessimists because of intelligence, but an optimists because of will". "Nothing happens by itself. Man must act and implement his will." No, there is no luck, just our decisions and will. But we all (99% of us) want justice and freedom. To achieve this two qualities for our society we need to focus our will on ethics (of interpersonal relations) on the intelligent way. We need to share resources (food and water). This is how we will eliminate hunger.

  • Ok. I have to point out that this a little bit bullshit. Even if we go plan economy, that doesnt mean we cant have things like TV. It simply means you cant have one in each room that you repleace ever second year.

  • @gulbirk

The purpose of this video is more about economy and not about entertainment. I care more about future economy and not at all about entertainment. People will find a way to entertain themselves anyway, but considered economy we must start doing something today for better future.

Imagine people in the time of Leonardo Da Vinci saying: "How silly. Technology has not changed for thousands of years. Why should we expect such a radical change in the next three hundred?"

  • The year 2040 for the fall of television is amazingly accurate for when this was written. We're seeing it now. I don't know anyone who watches television, and those who did canceled their cable years ago. It's all online.

  • Basically, all your needs are covered.

Under the Federation of course XD

  • No war, poverty, hunger or homelessness. A society that works for self improvement instead of fiscal renumeration(money).

A post scarcity society that has a simple philosophy in life: bettering yourself

That's a world I would like to live in.

  • @heroesandcons09 It's called post scarcity.

  • No T.V by 2040? We only got 29 years left!

  • I want to live in this future...now please.

  • @Sindraug25 look mayby what i said about americans was crued but its not incorrect you do denie healthcare to all your people even the firemen who saved people in 9/11 and now have a costly longdesease that is killing them slowly. and you do indebt your youth when they want to have a good education, i dont think its inflamitory to say that that is retarded. and i say this because i care for people in america who need healthcare and education and are denied these things because of other retards

  • @TheArguseyes Like I said, it's nice in theory, but it just doesn't work. You want to provide everything for free for people, but unfortunately, there's just not enough money to do that, and that's why the economy is so bad (not just here, but in Europe too); because spending is out of control. By the way, you claim Europeans such as yourself aspire to care for others, yet you throw in inflamitory remark after inflamitory remark at Americans... that's not caring...

  • @Sindraug25 the EU country's have abandoned the old ways and given up sovreinty in many areas, this to serve a greater purpose if there is ever to be a fedaration it will be trough us, even if it will take us verry long today we already aspire the same moral goals.

  • @Sindraug25 The US is a retarded country that wont even help its heroes of nine eleven they prefer them to gasp slowly to death instead of given them good healthcare, you americans dont know the word cooperation or diplomacy all you understand is war and nationalism.
