Just a little update on the Dragon Rider build. We now have the cpu stable at 4GHZ. The memory controller on the mobo was causing all the grief so the ram had to be underclocked to get it stable.

Recap of items used
Intel i5-750
Asus P7P55 LX
Corsair XMS3 (8 gigs)
VisionTek HD4870 512meg
VisionTek HD4850 512meg

  • how is your temps so low :/ mine is on 4Ghz at 1,325 volts i think just over 80 on full stress :/ and just after 1 hour prime95 kicked off 3rd core.. its been always the unstablest core, and coolest one too.. not sure what is going on :D

I have Noctua p12 cooler, what do you have if your temps are so low :o ? Thank you

  • @NahkeaTaata If your third core is dropping off then you may still need a little more voltage to stabilize it. Remember not all cpu`s and motherboards are the same so it may be possible that you are not able to get that one stable at 4.0. As for cooling I have 10 case fans running and use a Thermalright Silver Arrow cooler with dual fans.

  • How did you underclock the ram? I have the same motherboard and want to OC my i5 760, but I am having blue screen problems.

  • @TimeSplittA I didn't overclock the ram. The memory controller on these boards are problematic. I have 1600 mhz ram and I had to clock it down to 1144 to get the cpu stable at 4.0 ghz.. 1376mhz was good up to about 3.6 ghz.

  • @brianesquinas If it is a K cpu you can overclock it. If not it has a locked multiplier and cant be overclocked.

As far as a cooler look at the Corsair H70. It is a nice cooler and it works with a 120mm fan.

  • @FUzzyBUnnyBOoties thnx for tips! hey can i overclock my i5-2310 32m 2.90GHz quad core CPU? atleast up to 3.4 or 3.8? and can you give me a cpu cooler that is water cooled and can support 120 mm fan.

  • @brianesquinas Do not run the cpu without thermal paste !!!!. If it is cooling faster with out it then it is because you are using too much paste. You only want to add a small dot in the center of the cpu.

The reason it drops down to 1.6 is because of the power saving settings. You can go into bios and turn off all of the power saving features. You can also disable your power settings in windows it is at where you change your screen saver.

  • @FUzzyBUnnyBOoties dude questions here!

    1. why is it that without thermal grease, my cpu cools faster? but in the EFI BIOS it cooks alot!

    2. my core i5 is 2.90GHZ and everytime i boot my pc it always shows 3.2GHz or 3.3GHz everytime I check on Core Temp then after a few seconds after the loading ends, it turn backs to 1.6GHz. any ideas?

  • @brianesquinas Sorry no I don't. I only knew about chew7 from watching a video on it. You will have to try Google.
