THE DIRECTORS SERIES with JOHN A. GALLAGHER

From 1982 to 1992, John Gallagher and Ira Gallen collaborated on the cable TV show THE DIRECTORS SERIES, featuring John's incisive interviews with hundreds of cinema personalities past and present. Lee Marvin, Dennis Hopper, Sir Richard Attenborough, Sydney Pollack, Ralph Bellamy, Don Ameche, Anne Francis, James Toback, Robert Downey Sr., Wolfgang Petersen (in his first American interview upon the release of DAS BOOT), Sam Raimi (in his very first video interview, promoting THE EVIL DEAD) -- these are just a few of the many filmmakers represented in Gallagher's candid, in-depth filmmaker-on-filmmaker interviews.

  • LOVE Toback! the true maverick spirit of the 70s era has been totally snuffed out. Monte Hellman,Schrader, Roeg, T. Malick,B. Rafelson,Henry Jaglom,Milton M. Ginsberg,S. Fuller,K. Russell,Herzog. Certainly all produced flawed, uneven work, yet totally unique and highly personal and their high points stand alongside the best cinema has ever produced.Toback comes from a singular era in film history that is being quickly forgotten, and thanks to dvd's young folks can rediscover their inherent worth!

  • I really like this film, too. Classy, quirky thriller--quirky like Fingers. Perhaps an aesthetic failure, but like a failed French art film--i.e., worth seeing anyway. I really like all the scenes where Nureyev and Kinski are together. And Kinski's solitary dance! Great.

  • thanks so much for posting this fascinating

interview with toback. (he seems a lot like the character he portrays in the film.) i love this crazy, flawed movie. even with its pretentious "terrorist chic" overlay. just when you think you've figured it out, Exposed changes again. prof/pupil sex gone sour turns into family estrangement to little girl lost in the big city to world-wide modeling fame, love with a terrorist hunter and ends with bloodshed on the battlefields of paris. wow.

  • write jonah weiland and ask her why she hates God so much she stole the God spoken name ministry of dreams like duncan rouleau and his children, tell jonah weiland's friend beware: Arune Singh

Augie De Blieck Jr. , Beau Yarbrough, Jacob Riskin , Jason Weisberger , Mark Cronan , Melody Muse , Nicole Lee , Rich Johnston , Rob Worley , Terry Wolfinger, tell them when jonah weiland was written, she wrote back, now, whats your problem, next time, I wont, watch jonah weiland run to release minis

  • yup. It's a shame. Speilberg-style sentimentality has crushed cinema :(
