Three or four hits with a BFH does the same job,much easier

Is there any particular difference between this type of removal tool and the other (pickle fork) type which you just hammer into the gap

The big difference Sanatahul is that the pickle fork will cut the rubber boot on the the tie-rod end and ruin it - which is fine if it's worn and you're replacing it. However, if you are releasing the tie-rod end to do some other job (maybe to replace a wheel bearing) you don't want to damage the boot. This tool is great in that scenario.
