Terraferma London Film Festival 2011 - Donatella Finocchiaro & Martina Codecasa Interview
Terraferma ("Dry Land") is a 2011 Italian drama directed by Emanuele Crialese. The film premiered at the 68th Venice International Film Festival. The film has been selected as the Italian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 84th Academy Awards
Synopsis:
A sicilian fishing family try to make a living from the sea around their home island of Linosa (closest to the shores of North Africa), but their struggles are thrown into sharp relief by the arrival within their community and their own homes of African refuges. They find themselves forced to decide what to do with the refuges they are now hiding.
This film is inspired by the dreadful real-life situation in the sicilian islands, where fishing communities are confronted with terrible dilemas every day.
