Today, November 28, 2008, is the day the Palast der Republik was completely removed from the landscape of Schlossplatz in Berlin-Mitte. Over the years I've been photographing the demolition of this building. The film, rather a slideshow, shows the various stages throughout the year 2003 to present.

It was such a beautiful building. I lived in Berlin (Ost) in the 1980s. Wonderful interior! Shame they tore it down! They wish to rebuild the exterior of the Stadtschloss -good luck! They will never find the money. Should have took out the asbestos and restored the structure to its DDR-era specs. A lot more cheaper. Now it is a vacant lot. Does anyone know where i can get a copy of the building's blueprints (if any exist)? It had everything in it disco, shops, even a bowling alley!

Watchin this cheers me to no end.
After the demolition Cathedral of Christ the Saviour (and its replacement with a swimming pool), the destruction of ancient monasteries, the waste laid to any and all history they could get their hands on...the Commies can have one of their modernist boxes smashed up and knocked to the ground without any tears from me.
Evil ideas spawned by evil men and pawned off as populist defined the last century. They are not humanity's ideals! Siehe! Der Abriss!

Hopefully demolished, that piece of communist crap! Ugly, cheap "architecture", criminally built on the place of one of the most important monument of the Barroque era. Another crime of the soviet servant Honnecker, that old crook. The perfect simbol of the occupation and the STASI.

Mit dem Abriss dieser hässlichen Lampenhalle wurden die Kommunisten auf passender Weise bestraft für die barbarische Sprengung des Schlüterschen Stadtschlosses! Jetzt kann das Herzstück Berlins wieder aufgebaut werden.
