This week there was a massive internet campaign dubbed "American Censorship Day" to bring light to the Senate's bill, the Protect IP Act, and perhaps even more importantly, the House version of the bill, SOPA. These bills will allow for websites deemed as "dedicated to infringing activities" to be blacklisted without any due process. Lawmakers are now starting to change their tune; all of it can be attributed to the massive effort, online, in print media to bring attention to it. But it's probably not because they realize the dangers of the legislation, rather they don't want bad PR, and don't want the largest tech companies, who also donate a lot of money, to turn their backs on their campaigns. Let's hope that Protect IP and SOPA both fail, but if they don't, just remember that this is a perfect example, of legislation that was bought.
