On March 16, 2009, Assemblyman Blakeslee's resolution, ACR 6, Relative to the Dalai Lama and Tibet Awareness Day, came up for a vote on the floor of the California Assembly. Diplomatic officials of the unelected one-party state of the People's Republic of China lobbied hard in an unprecedented effort to kill this bill, which symbolically supported the people of Tibet. The same bill passed last year. Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, a candidate for U.S. Senate in 2010, is seen here trying to force a vote on the bill. The Speaker pro tem, a Democrat, blocks him. The bill was sent back to the Rules Committee to die. That day the Communist Party of the People's Republic of China won, while American democracy lost.
