This RE4 run is a varient of VMerken's No Merchant Combat Knife/Handgun run in which I try to make the game as "movie-like" as possible. This is the NTSC Gamecube version.

The rules of a No Merchant Combat Knife/Handgun run are:
-Start from a New Game
-No business with the Merchant
-No continues, no deaths
-Combat Knife and Handgun only

In addition to that, this run adds these rules:
-No damage
-No pausing or opening the Attache Case for any reason

Furthermore, in this run I:
-Pace myself (walk during slow bits, etc.)
-Leave in the cutscenes unless there's some gameplay reason to skip
-Pick up and read all files except Playing Manual 2, Playing Manual 3 and Target Practice (because they don't exist).
-Don't reload incessantly (I try not to throw away 9 bullet magazines without reason, for instance)
-Don't pick up any items I don't need, like healing items and grenades
-Play Normal mode, because I'm not insane

I know I'm breaking one of VMerken's rules by playing on Normal. However, most of the challenge of this run is still there: since I never get hit, it doesn't matter that the enemies do less damage, and my strategies have all been tested in Pro and work. What Normal does is make certain scenes, like the infamous chapter 5-2, less meat-grindingly impossible.

YouTube permitting, each video should be one chapter. Since I'm not using continue points, I basically play typewriter-to-typewriter and then edit together my successful attempts at each section into one, flowing video of the entire chapter. The aim is to make something that one could theoretically sit down and watch and get most of the content of the game (even if they'd never played RE4 before). I cut on the black screen after each typewriter save, but if you pay attention you can still tell where they are: it takes slightly longer for the game to fade in from black when loading a save, and you'll hear a cut in the audio.

Also, to spice things up I added some "Leon's Mind"-style in-universe commentary annotations. These mainly serve the purpose of pointing out my Fridge Logic moments (and RE4 has plenty of those), and I put them in the annotations so you can turn them off if you don't want to see them. I also include out-of-universe "meta" notes in the description of each video.

Enjoy

Meta-notes:

01:45 - This scene is a nice little warm-up for this nightmarishly long chapter. Here you can see me clear it with exactly one bullet.

08:08 - Queen's Grail is the easy one, that's why I got it first. Nothing really to say about it, except that drawing a bead on those two Ganados can be difficult. I missed two shots there. *Sigh*

13:26 - And now we get to the first really hard part, the King's Grail. Here I used a handgun and knife strategy--knife to expose the Plagas and handgun to take them out. even VWerken doesn't have a strategy to knife the Type 1 Plagas. The trick is getting the Armaduras all bunched up, then getting behind them, which forces them to freeze up for some reason.

23:43 - The second wave, with Type 2 Plagas, can be knifed completely. But I didn't feel like taking that risk after coming this far, so I kept up my same handgun/knife strategy.

40:32 - This Novistador strategy is a bit meta, courtesy of VMerken. By going back to the previous area, you make the Novistadors docile, which makes it easier to shoot the hinges without harm. The first shot re-alerts them, however.

47:45 - Getting through the clock tower without damage is rather tricky. The crossbow Ganados are easy enough to avoid if you're fast, but the ones at the bottom without damage can be a real pain--especially that last archer, who is very likely to shoot you in the back as you try to run by, which is why I use two shots to stun him and another Ganado. After that, it's a smooth run to the exit.

49:29 - And now we get to my pride and joy of the chapter: the double Garradors, fully knifed. (Okay, I use one shot to alert them, but other than that it was full knifing.) There's really nothing to this except getting very intimate with the Garradors' AI and body language--the most reliable way to lure them into the charge-stab attack is to run at them from a distance while they're patrolling around with their claws put away. I focus on the unarmored Garrador first, then go after the armored one later. Once one Garrador's dead, the fight is pretty much over.

1:26:16 - Verdugo is actually a rather easy finale to this long chapter. If I wanted to kill him, that'd be quite a bit harder, so good thing that's not necessary on a No Merchant run, eh? I'm running out of space here, so I'll let this fight speak for itself.
