the head of the sheriff's union confirms to eyewitness news 4-- that there have been talks of a possible no- confidence vote for sheriff manny gonzales. it's the latest development to a story we broke -- involving accusations that the sheriff is giving his brother, a lieutenant with the department, special treatment. misa maruyama is live from the northeast substation with the latest. misa? the union president says right now -- a no confidence vote is not on the agenda for the next meeting. but he says a couple of rank- and-file members have suggested such a vote. he says much of the bernalillo county deputy sheriff's association ... is dis-satisfied with sheriff manny gonzales. we were the first to tell you the sheriff's brother -- lieutenant james gonzales -- was osen to be a liasion between b-c-s-o and the county's human resources department. the union also says lieutenant gonzales was chosen to attend the f-b-i national academy in virginia ... and appointed acting captain for the criminal investigations division -- but for only 48 hours. sheriff gonzales was originally appointed to replace former sheriff darr white by county commissioners. michael wiener is one of the commissioners who voted for gonzales. today he told eyewitness new four that if he knew what he knows now -- he probably wouldn't have made the same decision. i'm sure you'll see not just me but other commissioners that are expressing outrage and trying to make the best county government we can. the union president also says the sheriff told deputies he was keeping open a b-c-so captain position open ... so he could fill it if he doesn't win the november election. for that reason and others -- the union president says b-c-s-o lieutenants have been talking to attorneys. we did contact a b-c-s-o spokesman to get in touch with sheriff gonzales- for reaction to all of this no confidence vote talk. the spokesman told us the sheriff is not commenting at this time. coming up at ten - hear from the deputies' union president about how a no confidence vote would work. reporting live from near paseo and hamilton, mm ewn4. eyewitness four broke the story about lieutenant james gonzales having the added duties as a liaison between bcso and the county's human resources department. sheriff manny gonzales told us his brother was assigned the position in april. last month the sheriff said his brother only shows people how to file e-e-o-c discrimination complaints-- and does not actually help with the investigation. the sheriff has told us before that he had nothing to do with the selection. a former undersheriff made the choice we're told there is no extra pay for the liaison position.
A vote of no confidence? Be careful, Chancelor Palpatine may not relinquish his power once the crisis is over. Seriously though, why'd they vote for him? I don't see the big deal in the sheriff giving preferential treatment to anyone. Do the citizens care, or is it just cops that are pissed off?
