Barbara was a French singer-songwriter-composer and pianiste, the first woman in the 'chanson francaise' who wrote and composed her own music after interpreted other's songs (Brassens, Brel, etc). She lived between 1930-1977, her real name was Monique Andrée Serf. Her songs describes her own feelings, own loves, in a very personal, dramatic, sensual and sensible way in the texts..

Can someone share? Who, or what, is Barbara? Is it a person, a songwriter? a french songwriting icon? or a play? I'm not sure I am getting the full story and what was Barbara's last name, if she is a person?
