Part 21 - Chapter 1, Stanza 14. http://www.crystalclarity.com/product.php?code=BEBPB The Essence of the Bhagavad Gita Explained by Paramhansa Yogananda as remembered by his disciple, Swami Kriyananda. This book shares the profound insights of Paramhansa Yogananda, author of Autobiography of a Yogi, as remembered by one of his few remaining direct disciples, Swami Kriyananda.

This revelation of India's best-loved scripture approaches it from an entirely fresh perspective, showing its deep allegorical meaning and also its down-to-earth practicality. The themes presented are universal: how to achieve victory in life in union with the divine; how to prepare for life's "final exam," death, and what happens afterward; how to triumph over all pain and suffering.

Swami Kriyananda worked with Paramhansa Yogananda in 1950 while the Master completed his commentary of the Bhagavad Gita. At that time Yogananda commissioned him to disseminate his teachings world-wide. Kriyananda has in his lifetime lectured, taught, and written over one hundred books based on Yogananda's teachings.

The Essence of the Bhagavad Gita is available from Crystal Clarity Publishers.

  • When I hear about the "impersonal," it reminds me of the socially arid environments of most churches and spiritual orgs now, East and West, which seem to follow society's general trends toward more and more alienation and even social fear. If a group can't provide me with a dynamic community of friends and lots of interesting interaction, which are main traditional functions of spiritual orgs, I see no point in being with them. I'm perfectly able to practice yoga at home.

  • You've misunderstood "impersonal." Don't feel badly. Most people do. What it means is not wanting anything personally for oneself, but giving freely and gladly to all, equally.

  • A perfect reply to my angst-filled comment, which reflects my frustration with the arid social atmospheres I've found in churches and spiritual orgs over the past 20 or so years. Thank you.

  • That's a beautiful story about Krishna and Radha. I like how it ends, "... and they went on as if nothing had happened."
