At one time I taught Radio-Television production. In the course of that I learned how to create 3d animation using the very first software version of 'Lightwave 3d' and the Video Toaster. I think my toaster was 25mhz. That's right...not "2.5 ghz processor speed"...but TWENTY FIVE megahertz. It took over 30 hours to render each frame of an animation (with reflections and shading) on that Amiga. Most of these sample creations here were done for various in-house TV programs we had on the station in the late 1980's and early 90's. I was able to do flying saucers and other spaceships just like all those chrome saucers on 'X Files', etc. Even composited a UFO landing near our production studio for a student-produced drama (THAT one was lost to videotape degradation over the years before I could get it archived here). All the Amiga animations took hours and hours and hours and hours to create and render. Had a horribly expensive hard drive recorder called a 'Personal Animation Recorder', or something....Gosh, now I could do it in 30 seconds and on a cheap computer from Walmart. Man...how times have changed. Everything from those years is long-obsolete and worthy of boat anchor stuff...... Look what we can do with our home computers, even the supplied 'video editing software', a simple digital camera, and YouTube. Thank you, YouTube for offering this service!
More of my animations are featured in various videos on my channel...especially the 'Nightshade Demo', Radio-TV Department panel discussion on AETN, etc etc.
