The reason they said they were bought is because of few of them were illegal and the relative didn't want to get prosecuted for it.

50 or 100 years ago kids aren't being taught to respect them. The best way to learn anything in life is through experiance, and they're not being taught with good experiance. They're just being taught, guns are bad, stay away from them. That works about as good as telling kids, don't smoke or don't have sex. Teach kids respect of firearms, respect of laws, and hell just plain respect, and you won't have as many wack jobs doing what they're doing.

Gun laws are like a padlock they only keep honest people honest, they don't stop criminals. If guns were banned in the U.S. they would only be taken from the law abiding people. They are the only guns the gov't knows where they are. I grew up in a house with about 30 guns, my dad never locked them or the ammo. Me and my two brothers NEVER did anything stupid with them. We were taught how to handle them and respect them. Because guns are not as nessesary in our every day lives as they were...

I never thought that argument made much sense. Its logical conclusion means we should just let people have nukes. After all, North Korea just needs to defend itself! It's not the nukes' fault!

Half the guns or twice as strict laws just means half as many crazy people have them. True, that also means half as many people can protect themselves, but there's less to protect FROM and less lunatics with guns, so it all works out. Of course that's not working too well in the UK right now.

Excellent argument to support the 'if guns were illegal the only criminals would have guns' argument.

As I recall those "kids at columbine" broke into one of their relatives locked shed and stole the guns they used at the high school. They didn't buy the firearms used, they stole them.

do you realize how many times you just contradicted yourself in that comment, punctuation is your friend.

That being said....You can buy a long gun (rifle, shotgun) when you are 18. At 21 you can buy a handgun, but must pass a background check, many states have eliminated the waiting period due to the availability of instant background checks.

if the kids at columbine high had been allowed to carry guns in school they would have been able to defend their self against the shooters and save class mates!!!! GUNS IN SCHOOLS SAVE LIVES FACT!!!!
