Same as original with music bed removed.

The problem of hell.

The original video with background music is still available here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aza_OSlb38

Just to clarify based on some of the feedback I've received: the premise of the argument I set up at the beginning of the video is "hell exists, god punishes based on behavior rather than one's faith". It doesn't matter why, the argument simply accepts the starting premise, for the sake of argument. So the reasoning I present is somewhat based on christian reasoning, with a slight twist, not my own personal reasoning. Trust me, I'm not trying to glorify torture as punishment, agree with the idea of an all-loving but vengeful god, or assert that there even is an afterlife to begin with. The argument is based on silly beliefs, that's why it's kind of silly.

  • The music added a lot to the tone in the original video.

  • @NeeshyNeeshy I agree, that's why I'm leaving the old one up. Because the music wasn't all that subtle, I was a bit undecided about using it for the bed in the first place. So when a few people expressed it was a tad harsh, I figured I'd just give a second option for those of us who don't rock as hard ;) I know I can't please everyone, but I can make an effort like this every now and then.

  • if we're going to arbitrarily multiply his suffering time by a finite ammount, why not arbitrarily multiply it by an infinite amount? There doesn't seem any reason for giving him 2 times the suffering he caused, 3 times, 0.5 times, 1 times, etc, that wouldn't apply to infinity times, or zero times. It's only when you have a purpose for the punishment, that a quantity is non-abitrary, and we can say what quantity is sufficient. If the purpose is emotional like revenge, it doesn't have to be logic

  • @unassumption all excellent points, as always. You're very good at taking an argument ten steps further and looking at it from many perspectives. Some of the points I made in this video are for the sake of argument. The concept of hell is silly, so I took some silly liberties to do my best to make my point on the premise that we accept some of the absurdity and try to make it less absurd, for the sake of argument. But I'm with you, the arguments make more sense when all absurdity is removed.

  • What's going on, some people complained about the music?

  • @AtheismTV yeah, some people didn't like it. Matter of opinion. The original is still up, I just thought I'd make one without the music for those that might not care for it. I aim to please!

  • Well according to christianity, if you really think about what christianity says, Hitler would not have been punished by the christian god because he killed mostly jews. Hitler was also supported by the Vatican. Chritianity is intolerant and supports the genocide of many people many times. Even though Jesus was jewish, jews are not well looked upon in christianity. I belive most christians today that say Hitler will be punished dont have any idea what sort of religion they have.

  • How is less punishment than they dished out just? I can fully understand more being unjust, but less would also be unjust. It should really be the exact same.

  • This doesn't rock as much but I guess you can't please anyone,right ? :P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P

  • So, let me get this straight... Some people out there listen to hours of Hovind of WLC for debunking reasons, but can't take a riff? Wow there are some wusses in the Atheist community :-).

  • @proudtobeatheist1 I don't see how you're condoning torture, even when talking about Hitler. The only moral stance is rehabilitation. Torturing Hitler would not undo any of the suffering that occured during the Holocaust.

  • Good call on silencing the songs sometimes, i had a similar thing with your rational revolution, the music is good but sometimes drowns out the words if the speakers arent up

  • Love it!

can't argue over an absurd premise like hell without some absurdity being accepted to start with ;)

How a finite human could exist forever in one state (infinite suffering?) and still be human, still be 'us' who is suffering. If there's even an infantesmal chance people will do something (say adapt to not suffer in hell) they will over infinite time, and if there's 0 chance of any change, how can they even be alive? It's just a way to scare gullible kids

it's like talking about the prime directive in star trek to me, I think it's absurd but it's just fiction. Sadly in this case people believe it's real - well claim to, thankfully few people act as if it were. Just describing what hell is, in detail, shows it's logical problems, and hopefully will make people emotionally wary of it too. The argument you give here is all you need, no point going 10 steps further. Thanks btw :)
