In 1968, Douglas Engelbart presented a technical demonstration of what his research team (a division of the Stanford Research Institute) had been working on for several years: a computer system that would serve as a way of 'augmenting the human intellect.'

Audio is from Engelbart's original 1968 demonstration:

  • This is great, but when he's talking about links, is he really talking about web pages?

  • @lenglain In the original demonstration my recollection is that he had an interface he was manipulating that was like a web page in its construction and the ability to click on hyperlinks to go to other pages of information or areas of the software. So it wasn't a web page in that it was stored on the computer he was using, but the functionality was quite similar.

  • Please tell me what the music is.

  • @SpeedoJoe I composed it specifically for this video

  • I will be showing this to Doug Engelbart on Dec 8. The following day will be the 42nd anniversary of the Mother of all Demos. We've needed a short version of the MOADs for a long time. We are grateful you did it. Thank you.

  • @paloalto2009 Thank you for this honor! Last year, Christina Engelbart found out about the video by way of my professor at the time, Gardner Campbell, and featured it on the Douglas Engelbart Institute Website.

Let me know if you need anything else, for instance the video in an alternate format, etc. Thanks!
