This Sailor Bob "condensed retrospective" was edited in 1998. It was only shown once, just before Bob Griggs was presented with The Richmond Broadcasters Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award. In it you'll see a kinescope clip, some puppet interaction, a little bit of drawing, and some pretty impressive production values for local television shot "in-studio". We were given a limit of 5 minutes, and it ran over just a bit. I hope you don't mind. • The "first" version of The Sailor Bob Show ran from January 1959 until early 1969. Various formats continued into the mid 1970s. "The Sailor Bob Story" 90-minute documentary is now available.

  • Wow, been waiting for these clips for a long time. Anyone have their pictures taken with Sailor Bob from the State Fair? My Brother and I do, looks like its from the late 60s.

  • In 1966 (I had just turned 6), I was in some grocery store parking lot, waiting to see Sailor Bob. Well, more kids turned out than they anticipated, and the whole thing was running very late, but Sailor Bob, God bless him, stayed and made sure that he at least said "Hi" to every one of us, personally.

  • This was my favourite childhood television show!I I still have my autographed Sailor Bob sailor's cap!

  • @mikemcgee

    Mostly 1962-1969.

  • what year was this show? it was well preserved compare to the soupy sales show where I live on local tv we had the young world show in the afternoons I was invited to sing on the show the technisions did not like my voice so they had turned the record up to dubb my voice it was humiliating

  • I know that Bob was instrumental in my life. I remember doing puppet show at school with my own gilly gull puppet. Later as I grew up I met BOB at the fair and he gave me a picture with his autograph on it. I got to meet him again on "Good morning Virginia" a show on channel 8 in Richmond,va. in the 1980's. I was a regular on the show for one year before it when off. I am handwriting expert from Virginia. I enjoyed meeting all the celbs. from Va. I wish you well Bob. Hello BOB, BRENDA BRADSHAW

  • Seems I remember Bob doing the weather and making drawings on plexiglass for Channel 12 when I first moved here in 71?? Watching his documentary on Feb 8 now, maybe they will mention that....opps they are now.lol...Great guy..
