An old scrapyard on the west side of South Main St. was burning as of 6:00pm 12 April 2007. From several miles north of this site, it was evident that there were 2 sources of smoke, one on the west side of the railroad tracks (not visible)about 100 yards behind the quonset building, and the other one on the east side of the tracks directly behind the quonset building. Wind was blowing from west to east. It appears to me that a brush fire may have jumped the tracks and started fire at the junkyard. The smoke was visible well to the north of the hospital, which is about 4 miles from the fire.
