In mid January, Integrated Systems hosted the A-10 Aircraft Structural Integrity Program (ASIP) summit at its structural test facility in El Segundo, Calif. At the time of the summit, Jan. 16-17, testing of an A-10 fuselage and empennage was in progress to support extending the service life of the aircraft to 20,000 flight hours.
In addition to Northrop Grumman personnel, the meeting was attend- ed by representatives from the U.S. Air Force A-10 SPO, Air Combat Command, Air National Guard, Lockheed Martin, and Southwest Research Institute, which represent the larger A-10 ASIP team.
Northrop Grummans A-10 team comprises people from the Eastern Region A-10 Engineering staff in Bethpage, the business management organization from Aviation Products in St. Augustine, and the Western Region structural test organization from El Segundo. Providing support to the team are the corporations Technical Services and Information Technology sectors.
The success of the A-10 Aircraft Structural Integrity Program is a tribute to the One Northrop Grumman approach and to the overall excellence of the A-10 ASIP teams support of the warfighter, said Marguerite Kassinger, A-10 project engineer.

Nothing will ever replace the flying gun with attached wings.

Was at Wright-Patterson AFB sometime around 1976-77 when the "NEW" A-10 was being Structural tested then. Remember seeing the wing structure in the jig being put through the motions. Now 30+ years later they are doing it again. One great plane.

@MasterJoseph. When the F-35 gets to shoot with a GAU-8 Avenger, then it will replace the A-10.. till then... its just another multimillion dollar fighter jet.

@MasterJoseph It is a misnomer to think that just because you **might** have a replacement airframe, that you would let your existing airframes go into obsolescence. The Thunderbolts II will be viable for years to come, with or without the Lightnings II ever coming online.

They are still improving the A-10? Isn't it supposed to be replaced by a varriant of the F 35 in the near future?

I got to go to the Barry M Goldwater range and watch them practice at the bomb range with their Gun, Rockets, and Bombs. It was the coolest thing I have ever seen. Check my profile and you will see a video of that day.
