I hold a similar view to Matt Chandler's view. I, however, come from a Pentecostal background and came to hold to Reformed theology while attending a Southern Baptist church. In fact, I find it humorous, that I am a reformed Charismatic in denomination that is for the most part neither reformed or charismatic.
@bigcpop74 Hey, no problem man. Just sent you a message. I'd be interested to discuss more about stuff like this as you've raised some good issues. There could be some good fruitful discussions as long as nobody fights, and "pursue love" just like you said. :)
@franksui Sir if I offened you I truely apologize. I dont believe God needs our co-operation. I've never read that. But I read (1Corin. 14:1) and I am convicted of the fact that I may not have shown you the love I should have. The ESV translates it "Pursue love" in the beginning of that script. Thats most important not our disagreements, even though they are still there. So may God grant you grace, peace and wisdom. Peace unto you my brother in Christ.
@bigcpop74 First of all, I am NOT a prophet. I am only one of MANY ordinary Christians who have operated in the prophetic. It doesn't make me special in any way.
There are many scriptures. These are simply my own interpretation of the scriptures which are NOT infallible. You can read through the New Testament. Men as IMPERFECT vessels have ALWAYS co-operated with the Holy Spirit. Bottom Line: Paul tells us to "Earnestly seek spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy" (1Cor.14:1)
@bigcpop74 As for the practice of spiritual gifts, indeed the gifts are empowered by the Spirit. But since we're human beings, we need to learn to "flow" in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. In other words, we don't practice the Holy Spirit (cuz Holy Spirit doesn't need to practice LOL), but we practice our way to co-operate with the Holy Spirit. For example When I started with gift of prophecy, God had to teach me which voices are from the Holy Spirit. I still had to learn you see!
@bigcpop74 I think the better way to put it is this: I love God, therefore I want everything He has for me. You see, it's such a relationship with Him. When He gives us a gift, it's so precious. And He wants us to want the gift He has for us. This is where the "pursuing" of the gifts comes in. I can personally testify to you, it's so wonderful to pursue the gifts He has given me! It really is a relationship with God.
@bigcpop74 I think there is much truth in what you're saying. But I also think you do have to pursue them. The bible says earnestly desire spiritual gifts. This is the way I look at it- a lot of things are available, but they're not automatic. God doesn't always just shove everything in us, but we have our individual unique gifts available, and we do have to go ahead and pursue them and take them. In the process of pursuing gifts, you'll discover such intimate relationship you have with Jesus.
