Shoaib Akhtar was in the spotlight as Sky Sports drew attention to him working on the ball during the ODI at The Rose Bowl.
The pictures, which were replayed several times in close-up, appeared to show Akhtar flicking his thumb at the ball as he walked back to his mark. It is quite possible that Shoaib was removing mud or dirt from the ball, but if so that is still illegal as only the umpire can do so. The incident did not appear to be seen by either official.
Former England captain Michael Atherton, who was commentating for Sky at the time, invited the viewers to: "make your own minds up" after watching the footage. Nasser Hussain said: "At best he's been very, very silly. To do that in the present climate is stupid."
It now remains to be seen whether the match referee takes any further action after seeing the replays. The irony is that once again that person is Mike Procter, who was in the same role at The Oval and whose seeming lack of decisive action then is sure to be under the spotlight when the ICC eventually holds its Code of Conduct hearing.

f warne played for one of the sub-continent teams, he wouldnt have been banned. if murali was aussie, english, sa, west indian or new zealand, he would have got done for a dodgy action, they changed the rules so he could bowl. now that is cheating
if he really was a chucker then u wudnt b seeing him playing cricket nymore, specially wit all those racist white fags who wanna take over the fucking game. we r proud of him and d biggest truth is tht u guys r jealous of him, rite or no? if no then shut the fuk up and let him play!
Just stating the facts! He's been reported for chucking. He's been banned for taking performance enhancing drugs. He's been charged with ball tampering.
He was SUSPECTED of chucking, howevr after two tests at the Univresity of Australia it was found that due to the hyper-extension in his arm, it created an optical illusion of him chucking. THAT is fact mate.
He was tested for drugs. Why on earth were the rest of the world not tested? The Australian cricket board refused when a medical doctor urged them to test their Australian team. Hypocrisy all round. Cricket is full of match fixing, drugs, cheating and its not fair to target couple of individuals and act like they are the only ones. Batsmen may also take drugs. Its best to test every single player
