I remind you, @BlueHappyBlueHappy of the Port Arthur Massacre in 1996. One shooting, and the Australian Government outlawed firearms. Now, you'd think that with massacres in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011, that the US Government would smarten up. Obviously the whole nation are idiots.

Our government knows that should they lose the support of the people we could pretty easily import guns and start a civil war. There's more chance we'll be invaded by China that there is that our own government will enforce military control over us. Australians just wouldn't do that to other Australians.

Yeah, there were. For the military and the police. Also, I'm not debating whether or not they could find a gun (which most people probably could if they tried hard enough), but not every civilian is going to be able to, and to have a government that is afraid of it's people requires a good number of the populace to own them. Also, if guns are illegal, it allows the police to seize them, and most people (with the exception of Americans) would forfeit their guns without a fight.
