I hate to be so blunt about this but Maher is such an idiot. He spends so much time criticizing and mocking the Catholic Church but no time whatsoever learning anything about it at all.
This video clip he ran on his show - very shortened from the full 2 minute running time - was not produced or paid for by the Catholic Church but by Catholics Come Home, an independent non-profit apostolate created by lay Catholics whose goal is to encourage fallen-away Catholics to return to the ancient faith.
