This is my first casting session. Trying to get my WWs ready for casting some boolits this week. The set up is not great, but it was the most economical at the moment. The skillet was free, had the propane and the turkey fryer was on sale :D

I would like to get some more Ingot molds since wait time between pours seemed like forever. Took a little bit to get the hang of not sloshing the mold also, like you will see me do in this video. Managed to pour about 104lbs of lead in about an hour or so after getting up to temp.

  • Get yourself a 2'x2' piece of sheet metal to set around your work area. Those little lead drips are a PITA to clean up, but if they are laying on sheet metal, all you have to do is dump them back into your scrap stash and remelt them.

  • @Oheeeoh Excellent idea! You've done this before I see. . . :D Now that we are to casting season and I have 2x 5gal buckets of lead to clean and get prepped, I will give that a try. Thanks for the tip!

  • test

  • what type of scrap lead did you use?

  • @kornphr34k most of this was done for wheel weights I either trader for or bought from tire shops. I also used sinkers from fishing weights and casting nets.

  • nice setup. simple. that is the same exact setup i want to try.

  • @kornphr34k been working well. I would like to have something nicer, but it's hard to beat for the price.

  • @inverseactuality If you sell them online or locally at a competitive price then sure. Boolit casters and reloaders like me always need lead, the problem is getting a good price on it.

  • I am 15 and want to make money without being limited to a mere 3 hours a day by law. Would I be able to make a bit of money by casting ingots like that?
