GORDON GILTRAP w/ THIJS VAN LEER improvisation at GOUVEIA ART ROCK 2009

Many years ago, british guitar master Gordon Giltrap met Focus legendary guitarist Jan Akkerman in a festival. But he never had the chance to meet the other Focus legendary man, Thijs Van Leer. This chance happened due to their presence at the Gouveia Art Rock 2009 festival. During his sunday morning guitar workshop at the Gouveia Library he recalled Thijs' generous tribute to Volapük just the night before (another video we uploaded) and decided to ask him, out of nowhere, to play an improvisation over one of his tunes. Thijs and his flute are only one, so half of the task was already done. Nothing more was necessary. The stunning result of this spontaneous collaboration between two fabulous musicians can be seen on this video.

Há muitos anos, o mestre britânico da guitarra Gordon Giltrap conheceu o lendário guitarrista dos Focus Jan Akkerman, num festival em Inglaterra. Mas nunca tinha tido a oportunidade de se encontrar com o outro lendário homem dos Focus, Thijs Van Leer. A oportunidade surgiu com o encontro de ambos em Portugal, no Gouveia Art Rock 2009. Durante o "workshop" de guitarra que deu na Biblioteca Vergílio Ferreira, o guitarrista britânico lembrou-se do inesperado tributo de Thijs aos franceses Volapük, na noite anterior (que pode ser visto em outros dois vídeos), e decidiu, de repente, convidar Thijs a improvisar sobre uma das suas peças. Thijs e a sua flauta são, na verdade, apenas um e um só organismo. Metade da tarefa estava, pois, feita, nada mais era necessário. O arrepiante resultado desta colaboração espontânea entre dois músicos fabulosos pode ser visto neste vídeo.
