@mlee2001 I find Justin Beiber boring and inane, however millions of screaming girls dont. All a matter of opnion and influence and most importantly, age.
@RoareyeBlack Well I can say that the scotty and uhura of the new movie sure got a lot more action and things to do than the og trek movies where they were just glorified extras, at least they got to do a little more than say "hailing frequncies open" and "im giving her all she got, captain" Im glad they had a bit more involvement. Badly written perhaps, but at least not excluded form the action or storyline. And what is considered boring and inane is merely a matter of opinion.
@mlee2001 Those themes are childish and do not focus on a broader scale that resonates with everyone. Everyone deals with the pains of getting older, even when 16 you tend to have some feeling of loss at the simpler times, by the time you're 30, 40, 60, 80 those feelings are only amplified. The feeling of 'braving' youth is both boring and inane and certainly resonates with a lower number of people. Spock's pain is a great idea, but written badly, as is Uhura and Scotty's purpose in the plot.
@ThirdRAILKink Well again, its all fiction anyway, so if you enjoyed the movie and it gave you an hour and half of distraction, then in my book it did its job! I think some people tend to take the fiction too far and forget that none of this is real. No more than getting mad at Alice in Wonderland. It makes me dream, and wonder and imagine and hope, but end of the day, its all fiction. I hope you enjoy your "trek" of the franchise, My advice is,Try not to compare, just enjoy the ride!
I don't hate the new film, I just think it's a better action movie than a Star Trek film. It has some morality and sentimentality to it, but, c'mon, it's mostly flash and sexiness. I loved it when it first came out becuase I hadn't seen much Star Trek. Since then I've watched and re-watched TOS and TNG and I'm currently working on the others. The more Trek I see, the less I like the new movie as a Star Trek movie.
@ThirdRAILKink Well you can find morality if you look for it. I already named the messages and morality of the new movie, you could reverse growing older with being younger and facing new challenges, kirks attempt at maturity, spocks inner conflicts and the other issues i stated. Its all fiction anyway and a great concept. Im a HUGE Trek fan meaning all episodes from all series and movies ,novels , behind the scenes, interviews whatever, not even bragging, just giving you a bit of background.
Wrath of Kahn was about more than vengeance. It was about growing older, facing mortality and the no-win situation. It was not just a revenge movie. It wasn't as simplistic as the new film.
Have you lot seen this: Star Trek Phase 2 - Special Featurette watch?v=xbMVLtFGiy4

"Murderers...Assassins". no one could have said it better.
Why is it that as special FX get better, acting and writing get worse??
