20091114 LAPD WVLY G8 001

LAPD G8 Technology Demonstrator. This is a one of a kind test bed the LAPD is utilizing to showcase numerous new features of what will become the next generation police car after 2012. Grill mounted FLIR, Touchscreen interior computer, roof mounted light switches, front compartment side airbags, and much much more. The final version will have 7 inches added to the frame to make it longer and give more back seat room, and will have a completely different body on it to make it the new Chevy Caprice.

Also note that this car is NOT California legal in regards to the lighting since it does not have a forward facing steady burn red light. For now, it is just a show car to let officers feel what the new, special for law enforcement seats feel like, let them explore the corvette C8 engine and electronics package, and let them know that the department is working hard to overcome the deficiencies in the Crown Victoria and what they experienced testing the Charger.

LAPD has tested the charger and has found them to be unsatisfactory for their needs. That's why they had a major hand in designing this car from the ground up. With a C8 Corvette engine, special seats, special cooling and ruggedized anit-microbial interior, it really puts the charger to shame in every way. Safer, bigger, less expensive, faster, and more advanced.

I hate the new concept of cars they keep trying to push out.... it always has been and always will be the crown victoria to the bitter end!!!!
