  • In 1993 I had a 1970 cutlass S with a 350 rocket. It was awesome, love these engines.

  • @textcrwds yeah nowdays the trucks are sking down mountains and doing flips in the air,or driving over huge rock and mud, who really drives that way everyday. most places dont even have backroads anymore.

  • I wonder if in real life after the commercial was filmed, they went back to Mel's trailer for some hoochy-coo or maybe a 3-way?

  • @TheAndyinSeattle You forgot the stick in the mud. Oh wait that's you.

  • All these glowing reviews about a car without seat belts, the horn that sicks out from the steering wheel (all the better to pierce the chest of the driver during a collision) poor breaking systems. Frankly it's a death trap if you go over 30 MPH

  • Wow, these car commercials are much better then the current ones. Nowdays it seems all they do is drive them and make a stereotypical statement rather then say good things about their car.

  • I remember in the late 1980s, the local Olds dealer in Columbia, SC, had a station on cable TV 24/7, and when they weren't showing infomercials , they were showing these cool old commercials.

  • Ohhh Mel Torme singing???

  • @Dal88 My Dad had a 1948 Packard 4 door sedan based on the convertable frame.

Packard fell when they merged with Studebaker. Studebaker didn't realize what they had and basically turned the Packard into an updated Studebaker. I can't figure out why car companies do that. Same thing happened to AMC when they were bought by Chrysler. Chrysler destroied all records of AMC's existance.

  • @madcapromanian

I agree. They went out the same way Packard did. The last couple of year's were nothing like the car they were known for. I worked 5 year's in a Packard dealership and drove every model. What a smooth ride. I would have bought a new one in 55 but the salesman wouldn't deal with me, so I bought a new 55 Olds 2 Dr HT.

  • @Dal88 Actually, they shouldn't have had to drop anything. They shouldn't have introduced the Saturn and should have spent more effort in advertising and improving the last Oldsmobiles. Current GM forgot the original Gm heirarchy and what it meant.

    Chevy was entry level

    Pontiac was performance

    Olds was the experimental car

Buick was the reliable Dr.'s car

Cadillac was the full luxary car.

  • Your right Billy. After posting my comment, I thought more about it and I was wrong.

I bought my first new Olds in 1955 and have bought Olds every since. Great cars. I sure will miss them. They should have eliminated the Buick

    I have a 55 Olds with 23,300 original miles I bought in 1982.

  • That Olds is actually a little earlier than '53 - it's either a '49 or '50.
