I have a brake on the front wheel of my fixed gear. Sheldon Brown wrote that the front brake is a good safety measure in case the chain breaks.

a fair number of those bikes are single-speed and not fixed gear.

I am pretty sure that all of the bikes are fixed gears. When I took the photos, I skipped the single speeds. Which ones do you think are single speeds

:21 and :46 is without a doubt a single speed, not fixed gear.

@bicyclespokesman Bike 1 @0:20, and Bike 3 @0:43 are definitely just single speeds. Others looked like they might be, but it's tough to tell from the angle of the photos.

Dood ..half these bikes are single speeds ....you can see the freewheels and hence the Brakes on Front & Rear wheels .... Brakes are 4 Fakes.... Conversions are Cool as long as they are Fixed & Not Faux ..... and if the chain breaks ...try and go for the grass...
