Another video that I took of the volcanic eruption in Grimsvotn, Vatnajokull, Iceland. Plume of ash shoots 20 km in the air between 4 and 6 am May 22nd, 2011, causing air traffic jams. Location: 1 km from eruption.

We drove up across the glacier on specially modified trucks for Icelandic highlands. What looks like clouds is a snow storm we got ourselves in. At this time we were getting some ash fall and flying lava rocks hitting us frequently.

  • Could you somebody explain me why there so many thunderstruck above the volcano?I am very intrested.

  • @pirki72 it's due to extremely hot lava ash rising up into the cold air that makes those lightnings. The plume rises upto 20 km, so the air freezes the ash instantly.

  • are those lighting strikes?

  • @cindyaniston yes.

  • @MEHROMA LOL! "Tharr shall be reign of FIRE upon thou!" ...right? :D

  • this is Mordor!

  • @Brynjarbjorn I never wanted to walk about race.....I was just correcting your statement that all humans come from africa. We essentially do, but that's also grossly omitting important parts.

  • @F0reseer Well yes, there apparently were interbreeding between Sapiens and Neanderthals, but my general point still stands: Arguing about race is pointless as we are all humans, it's as simple as that (even though I know there'll always be that kind of bullshit cause... we're human).

  • @Brynjarbjorn well, yes and no....all modern non-africans have 4-5% neanderthal DNA, which means some of us have ancestors not from africa.

  • @2012singularity2012 yyyyyyup!
