Review:
Guess the news is one of a kind! Truly a very original game that is good fun while also being informative. What immediately struck me that was cool with this app is that it's not just a game because it also provides you with latest news from the US.
The aim of the game is to complete the headline of the news shown to you by putting letters in the right position.
Once you run the app by tapping on start you are shown all the categories (top stories, nation, international, business, entertainment, sport, odd stories, technology, science and health) in which you can play. Every-time you connect to the web with your phone it will update all the latest news form all over the web from the best sources such as TechCrunch, CBS, Yahoo, USA Today, etc.
By choosing the category on which you are more keen you can start playing.
You can chose between two different game experiences (classic or timed) and between three different levels (easy, medium and hard).
Graphics are really nice (much like scrabble in fact) and are pretty functional to the aim of the game. There is a bunch of letters in the middle of the screen. When you chose the word you want to solve, the app highlights just the letters that belong to this word. By completing words you collect points and, once you finish the complete headline you have the option to read the entire article before going ahead with the game.
The possibility to read the entire article is, in my opinion, another great feature of this app: many games in app store are interesting for a couple of goes but this will have you entertained for much longer and keep you informed.
I liked Controls as well. There are two ways in order to place letters in the empty spaces: you can drag them and move them on the empty spaces or you can double tap on them and send them automatically in the empty spaces. As the developers said in the app description on iTunes, there is virtually no steep learning curve.
Sounds are not implemented yet but developers have already announced that sound effects and musics will be enclosed in the next version. For the moment, anyway, you have the chance to listen your own music while playing the game (How bad, I prefer this)
I recommend this strongly to all. Definitely one the better games out there. Moreover, until the October 8th Guess the News will be available for just 0.99 $ (after it will start to be sold at the regular price: 2.99 $). Don't miss this opportunity.
