Since the early 1990s, he has been researching the relationship between architecture and media, and often more specifically the relationship between architecture and computing. He was editor-publisher of one of the first magazines in book format (NOX and Forum), and has made a video (Soft City) and interactive electronic artworks (Soft Site, Edit Spline, Deep Surface), but then he has focused more on architecture (HtwoOexpo, V2_Lab, wetGRID, D-Tower, Son-O-House).

Lars Spuybroek lectures internationally, has taught at several universities in the Netherlands, and is a regular visiting professor at Columbia University in New York. From 2002 to 2006 he has held a tenured professorship at the University of Kassel, where he ran the CAD/digital design techniques department. Until 2006, he also taught at Columbia University in New York, and since 2006 he is a tenured professor and chair at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.

His publications include The Weight of the Image (NAi Publishers, 2000), NOX: Machining Architecture (Thames & Hudson, 2004) and The Architecture of Continuity (V2_ Publishing, 2008).
