Take Back Talking Points is back from the dead. This episode we discuss the health care reform bill passed by the House and the swine flu and the vaccine controversy. We talk about the public option and whether it will be effective, forced health insurance and a possible big handout to the insurance industry, and the H1N1 (swine flu) virus, how serious a threat it might actually be, and we try to make some sense out of the vaccine controversy. And we go on some interesting tangents on the economy in general, worker exploitation, and Afghanistan.

Joining me this episode are Zach, aka FeelFreeToArgue, and Brendon, aka Funkalunatic.

Take Back Talking Points is a progressive roundtable talk show which will hopefully begin to appear on YouTube on a regular basis. The different segments of the full show appear on the YT channels of the participants, so the most convenient way to view the entire thing is to use this playlist:

  • As far as the provision regarding pre-existing conditions is concerned: it will solve absolutely nothing + here is why: even though, the ins. companies cannot deny you COVERAGE based on these criteria, the bill does NOT keep your insurance company from RAISING the premiums to unaffordable levels. To put it simply: yes, they'll have to cover you, as long as you can afford the premiums. If you can't , then your policy is cancelled automatically.

  • your face is hilarious, i didn't listen to your stuff tho i was laughing too hard at the image....i appreciate what your doing tho ._.

  • Hi Again,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I got pulled away from my computer yesterday and am just getting back to it now. I'll send you a PM right now.

  • I actually had never heard of them before, but then again, I kind of live under a rock.

Thanks for the info and I'm looking forward to the pm with more... I had a look and I didn't really see where you go to participate... we'll have to see what we can do to integrate it with our current format

  • >> BTW: Full disclosure, I have nothing to do with BHTV, except as a fan of the site -- I've been watching their diavlogs pretty much since the site was launched as a two-man project back in 2005. Bloggingheads is like a YouTube for smart people. Whereas, you know, YouTube is like a YouTube for stupid people. Sometimes painfully stupid.

You'll still find some stupid over at BHTV, but not nearly in the fatal doses one finds it here on YouTube. (You guys are YouTubes' rare bright spots.)

  • >> I will send you a PM with details on where to find the site and how to let BHTV know you would be willing to do an episode -- assuming you are interested.

The Apollo Project is a sub-effort within the larger BHTV enterprise, and right now it appears to me that the Apollo Project is languishing. I'm sure it will eventually take off, but it's been slow getting started. You guys (and Ella) could give it a boost with some rational, informed opinion!

  • >> I will note that BHTV's diavlogs always feature two diavloggers, never three, but if you add Ella, or if you know of other folks who could participate, you could form different pairs.

The thing about BHTV is that it reaches a completely different audience than YouTube -- a much more sane, less "wild west" atmosphere reigns over there. I would LOVE to see some truly progressive opinion find its way into the ears of more people, and this would be a great opportunity to make that happen.

  • Cool. Where did you end up looking?

Have you heard of bloggingheads before?

I made this suggestion to Zach a while back, too, before I realized you guys were doing these discussions. Given the discussion format you've already got going, it makes even more sense. Bloggingheads (dot) TV does what they call "diavlogs," which is a portmanteau of "vlog" and "dialog," in other words, exactly what you three are doing in this video.

    >>

  • actually I had never heard of that, I'll investigate it... at first glance, it definitely looks like our crowd, I'd say

  • You guys should think about Bloggingheads' Apollo Project, where you could reach far more people, and a far different audience than you reach on YouTube. Ella (55Ella2007k) would be a good candidate, too.
