A clip from the student film "The Legend Of Old Man's Cave," directed by A. C. Weary, circa 1974. Paddy looks fit and active here in this teaching sequence with a then 19 year old J. Allen. Filmed at Ohio University. The original video was shot on 1/2 inch B&W reel to reel tape, a new format at the time. Paddy had, in the 1950's staged sword fights with, and for Errol Flynn, even stunt doubling for him, in "The Master of Ballentrea" film for MGM, among others, and was fight director in residence at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Canada for decades.

  • I had the fortunate opportunity to cross blades with Maestro Suddeth himself at the 2008 Winter Wonderland Stage Combat Workshop as his assistant, practicing this very fight.

I thank you, Maestro, for allowing myself and every member of the class to take part in this piece of stage combat history.

  • "A woman is only a woman, but a good sword fight is no joke." Well said sir, well said.
