This music has been preserved by imperial GAGAKU music division. This melody

was made in ancient Japan. But music structure and instruments came from ancient

China. Now even China has not this music form. We preserve every culture.

It really is magnificent music, once you understand it. But getting a feel for it starting from western music is like listening to paint drying off key.

For newcomers, Uzume's dance at the stone door of heaven is a better place to start. Look for 天の岩戸.

It is in some ways, but some would argue that much of the culture that is "preserved" is not in its true form, and is a hollywood-style imitation. It's a shame.
