Toots and the Maytals, originally called simply The Maytals, are considered legends of ska and reggae music. Their sound is a unique, original combination of gospel, ska, soul, reggae and rock. Frederick "Toots" Hibbert, the leader of the group, was born in May Pen in the Parish of Clarendon, Jamaica.

  • Saw the story of Toots on BBC4 last night, what an inspiration, a truly charasmatic warm and funny man who sings from life experiences. Those who say he looks tired doing this performance, remember he had a hit in 1963 with Bam Bam, so he has some age on him. I think the opposite, he's full of energy and look forward to seeing them if they tour the UK.

  • I'm a lifelong fan of reggae music, but the synthesizer has WAY too big a role in modern reggae music. Bring back the piano or Hammond B3.
