"A study of chromosomal variation showed that
modern Greeks and southern Italians have
a common prehistoric genetic history and
to a greater extent a historic one. The southern
Italians are largely Greek in origin."

"The closest population to Greeks are
Italians and Tuscans,the low genetic
distance between Greeks and southern
Italians (-0.0001 fst, the lowest in the fst
table) suggests once again that southern
Italians are little more than latin speaking
Greeks."
And it's already known that southern
Italians are actual descendants of ancient
Greeks since Southern Italy was
heavily colonised by ancient Greeks and was
known as Magna Graecia. Even today in
parts of Calabria they speak a Greek dialect
called Griko. Thus if modern Greeks are the same
people as southern Italians, it means modern
Greeks are also descendants of ancient
Greeks also.
So, all Historians are agreed unanimously that
the ancient Macedonians were a ancient Greek
tribe and were Greek speaking. The issue is are
modern Greeks descendants of ancient Greeks
and therefore of ancient Macedonians.
All studies show that the modern Greeks are the
same people as Southern Italians.

"The significance of the term 'Macedonian'
has changed.
The modern country called 'Republic of macedonia'
[FYROM], is populated primarily by people
of Slavic origin. The original ancient region
of Macedonia - in Greece - was the land of
a Greek speaking ancient ethnic group
called Macedonians - the people of
Alexander the Great."
In other words, Borza is saying it's not his
place to say whether todays Greeks are
descendants of ancient 'Hellenic Macedonians'.
That's a job for anthropologists, and Borza
is a Historian, he's NOT an anthropologist.
So its an issue in which he cannot comment on.

'Borza here is absolutely correct, he's a Historian,
it's NOT his job, neither is it his field of expertise,
to say whether modern Greeks are descendants
of, as he puts it, 'Hellenic Macedonians'. That is
a job for anthropologists and not a historian like
him. All Borza can say is that the ancient Macedonians
were of Greek [Hellenic] stock that spoke Proto-Greek.
Macedonians were a Greek [Hellenic] people
who spoke Proto-Greek.
