Rep. Diana DeGette's opening statement at the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations hearing entitled "Inquiry into the Deepwater Horizon Gulf Coast Oil Spill" on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, in 2123 Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing examined what caused the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig and the oil spill now spreading across the Gulf, in order to help prevent future incidents and inform the direction of our national energy policy.
Of course we should expand offshore drilling. No question about it; just don't turn greedy bastards loose in the decision making process where drilling rigs are concerned. "Well, yes, we might kill a dozen workers or so, but we'll get that oil, come hell or high water". They'll get both soon enough.

i appreciate your passion, however, i'm very disappointed at this administration's broken promise to implement clean, renewable energy jobs into our economy and the furthering of technology into our automobiles that so desperately needs this clean energy.
we have the technology but america has been very stagnant in leading the way - we are so far behind other countries. we have the capacity to become completely energy independent with CLEAN, RENEWABLE ENERGY.
